Why does the fabric offend you?
Let's be frank here, A hijab or head scarf is just an extra piece of cloth covering the females hair. At the end of the day, It is merely FABRIC. Why are you still so offended, angry and racist?
A head covering/scarf or hijab is the piece of material that Muslim girls or Females wear to cover their hair, often accompanied by a modest dress code. A hijab is compulsory for Females only and not Males. Though, Males are required to dress modestly and cover up from their navel to knees when outside of their home.
The main purpose of the hijab is to first and foremost follow Gods commandment. The hijab also acts as a form of protection against abuse and temptation and has many other wisdoms.
A women wears the headscarf upon leaving her house or if a visitor that isn’t allowed to see her hair comes over.
She is allowed to show her hair to any female, her husband, father in law, brothers, father, stepdad, grandfather, uncles and parents uncles, milk brothers if any, and step brother from at least one biological parent. Basically, many males that generally aren’t allowed to marry her or one that hold close biological ties.
The Hijab is merely a piece of extra material, part of ones dress code. It doesn’t stop her from living a normal life, eating, studying, working etc.
A headscarf merely covers the females hair only and doesn’t limit her brain functionality or decision making or even actions.
In terms of showering, A women does not shower with the head scarf and based on the above she doesn’t even wear it at home either.
Segregated Societies
In many Muslim, Arab or Middle Eastern countries or settings, society is segregated by default so women naturally have that free space such as women’s only hair salon, women’s only cafe, women’s only gym etc. where one can comfortably access these services. Similar to what we see in some Western countries such as Women’s space, Breast feeding rooms and Women’s only gyms etc.
Conclusion
Next time you see someone covering their “HAIR”, please continue to treat them with respect without prejudice and racism. The difference between her and another women is the additional fabric she has chosen to use or wear.
